Evolution of 18

We hesitate to admit it but our generation’s usage of cell phones and Facebook has terribly evolved users for the worse..... I am not denying that cell phones and Facebook are great ways of communication however it is a matter of regulating your use of them.

Turkle's statement “Traditionally, the development of intimacy required privacy. Intimacy without privacy reinvents what intimacy means." People these days are always “on call." Due to this, the process of independence has completely evolved, reinventing what we define as a rite of passage. The ability for parents to call and even text their children at any time is frightening and diminishes the transition into adulthood. Being 18 years old these days is equivalent to being 15.

“Parents can be brought along in an intermediate space, created by the cell phone,” this brings to question instant gratification. If I don’t answer my parents within ten minutes or so they either think I’m dying or doing something suspicious. Even though we may find our parents' instant gratification an annoyance, we are the ultimate victims. When we don’t get a response from our friends immediately or if someone takes a long time accepting a friend request we usually become frustrated and over analyze what we said. Digital conversation has become overvalued; there is a loss of tone and body language resulting in a false representation of our true selves.

How Do We Turn This Thing OFF?

WARNING: The side effects of reading this post may cause headaches and confusion

(just kidding)

Have you ever thought about the size of the universe and its infinite structure? Like where does it end? Well on a similar note of HUGE thoughts, how on Earth do we turn off the Internet? When I picture a power box of the Internet I envision  box with loads of security locks with a little switch inside that could turn off the entire Internet. But it's not like that. At all. It' s nearly impossible to shutdown the entire Internet. As a whole, the Internet is composed of multiple different networks controlled by multiple different people, businesses, and governments. Then again, Egypt did it. It would be so much cooler (prunier) if the Internet was just one domain or perhaps it would be scarier.

I found a website that claims if you click its hyperlink it can turn on and off your internet, I dare you to click it. www.turnofftheinternet.com/

It's one thing to rid yourself of the Internet but imagine how society would be if one day every network crashed; it would be like reverse time travel. Would it be a dystopia or utopia? The loss of social networking may seem to be the worst that could happen but we must understand how the Internet has become a political, financial, and social weapon. All forms of digital communication would be eliminated which in some ways would be beneficial and bring us back to the basics of human contact. Countries would have to go back to telegraphs and would result in less political conflict. Think about how many recent political conflicts have been ignited by the Internet. For example, Twitter and Iran; there would be no reason for Iran to blame the United States for aiding the rebels.
Is the Internet a matter of fear or glory?

Why PRUNE you ask?

DID YOU KNOW due to popular belief of prunes only being used for  constipation, most prune distributors stopped using the word "prune" on their labels and now say "dried plums"......well they're silly because Prunes are SO in right now

Anyways, Prune derives from my last name. Supposedly when the Olsen Twins have their pictures taken they say Prune to make they're lips purse. Try it.

(Such a Prune face)

My roommate bought me my first cup of Prune JUICE this week (clearly Ardmore Farms know's whats up by not saying dried plums).  But I'm not really sure what to do with it because I can't drink my first prune juice ever, I have to covet it, maybe I'll put some rhinestones on it.
